You’ve probably set yourself some audacious goals already for this year (if not, why not?). Wondering how you’re going to stay focused and smash those personal challenges? Could mindfulness boost your success? If you haven’t investigated the science behind mindfulness before you might be more than just a little bit surprised (and very persuaded) by the research.

The Centre for Healthy Minds

Prof Richard Davidson, founder of the Centre for Healthy Minds http://www.centrehealthyminds.org is a PCG favourite and a positive rock star when it comes to the world of mindfulness research. He has been researching the impact of mindfulness for over two decades. His focus? how to cultivate wellbeing and relieve suffering. We take a look at the story so far and the evidence that mindfulness could boost your success.

Neuroplasiticity

The centre’s research examines how we can intentionally train our brain to improve our wellbeing. The good news? Your brain is pliable and a process known as neuroplasticity helps us to sculpt and re-wire our brain along with our thinking. That means goodbye to old habits and thinking patterns that no longer serve us. Think you’re too old to learn new tricks? Pah. Davidson’s research puts that one to bed with a hot water bottle and bed socks for good. Not so, says Davidson. We can train our brain at any age and mindfulness offers us a way to do just that.

Our experience shapes our brain

That means that we can intentionally activate areas of the brain associated with happiness, focus and resilience. All of the good stuff that we’ll be needing for those audacious goals to help us focus, get into flow and stay on track when the going gets tough. Mindfulness is a form of mental training that will help you to shape your brain and improve your wellbeing at the same time. For as little as 10 minutes commitment a day, you’ll start to see a difference. That’s why we’ve been practicing for almost two decades. Honestly, what’s not to like?
