The Myers Briggs Type Indicator was designed by Isabel Myers and Katherine Briggs, a mother and daughter team after the second world war. The MBTI questionnaire is based upon Jungian typological approach to personality. Today it is used around the world as a developmental tool in business, education, career development, leadership roles, team dynamics and relationships.
The typology assessment works on the basis that you naturally choose one of two preferences in each of four categories relating to how you operate in the world around you. These four items are called dichotomies, pairs or preferences. Identifying these preferred preferences generates your MBTI or typology type.
There are four key areas that make up our personality type. Each of the four areas is made up of a pair of opposite preferences. So there are two possible ways you can use area at any time. In type terms, these areas are called dichotomies. The MBTI is not about strengths or weaknesses or being good or bad at something, it simply indicates your preference. The MBTI reports preferences related to the following four dichotomies.
Introversion (I) OR Extroversion (E)
Source of energy: Where do you get your energy from? Are you more drawn to the outer world or the inner world?
Sensing (S) OR Intuition (N)
Receiving Information: Do you prefer to use data and information when making decisions, or do you tend to see bigger picture, connecting patterns and go with your instinct?
Thinking (T) OR Feeling (F)
Making Decisions: Do you treat each situation with the same set of objective values or do you use your own values to make decisions?
Judging (J) OR Perceiving (P)
Life Style: When dealing with others do you prefer to have things scheduled and organised out or do you prefer more spontaneity, leaving things open?
Try our modified typology questionnaire to find out your individual 4 letter preference.
To find out your type preference, answer the questions below. When responding to the questions please go with your first response, or the response that sounds the most like 'you'. If you are struggling and find yourself thinking of different responses in different scenarios, go with the response that you would give if you were at home (and not at work) as this will best represent what is typically you.
N.B. This questionnaire is not affiliated with MBTI or OPP.

ESTJ
ESTJ You are: Decisive - Practical - Logical - Systematic
ESTJs are known for being straightforward, directive, pragmatic, and dependable, with a great ability to organize the task at hand. They prize logic, details, and practicality and couple these with their often natural inclination for taking charge to move groups towards a finished product or desired outcome. ESTJs have a great appreciation for responsibility, competence, and hard work and will go to great lengths to make sure work is done carefully, correctly, and on time. This is most easily accomplished in areas where they can work together with other dependable and competent people to reach the finish line.
ESTJs are often gifted in understanding logical systems in a thorough manner. As family members and friends, ESTJs are typically friendly and extremely devoted, and they may show affection by taking care of day to day tasks that bring safety and security to the family unit. They may sometimes struggle with the emotional aspects of relationships.
ESTJ in Stress
Normally, ESTJs will be thrown off in environments that are in disarray, due to their love of structure and organization. ESTJs find stress in disruptions, being surrounded by irrational behavior, and being surrounded by (or guilty of) incompetence. They may often find it difficult to be in situations of change, especially when they do not see the practicality of the change, or they lack the past experience with the new way of doing things to trust it. Also, ESTJs may struggle with a lack of control over getting things done in a timely fashion, especially in situations where they deem current leadership inadequate and/or lazy.
When faced with stress overload, which may come from being confronted with intense emotions, feeling guilt over being critical towards others, or not having their strongly held values and/or feelings validated, ESTJs may find themselves 'in the grip' of their inferior function, Introverted Feeling. During this experience, the individual is likely to do things that are typically completely out of character. This may include having uncharacteristic emotional outbursts and withdrawing from others to prevent displaying what feels like a lack of emotional stability. ESTJs may become hypersensitive about their relationships with others and interpret tiny, insignificant details into the belief that others dislike or hate them.

When faced with stress overload, which may come from being expected to conform with something that goes against their values, spending time in an emotionally toxic, combative, and/or excessively critical environment, or being in an environment where there is a basic lack of trust between individuals, ESFJs may find themselves 'in the grip' of their inferior function, Introverted Thinking. During this experience, the individual is likely to do things that are typically completely out of character. This may include critically lashing out at others, and obsessing over their mistakes, lack of competence, and flaws. These criticisms usually turn inward, and the ESFJ will withdraw from others and self-criticize. ISFJ in Stress
Normally, ISFJs are most thrown off and stressed out by environments where there is a great deal of tension or confrontation. ISFJs become stressed by looming deadlines, being forced or asked to do things in ways that do not make sense to them, and being asked to do something off the top of their heads without plan or direction. They may often find it difficult to be in situations of change, especially when they do not see the change as reasonable, and ISFJs can eventually become frustrated when their hard work behind the scenes goes unappreciated or when they are taken for granted.
When faced with stress overload, which may come from dealing with unfamiliar territory and uncertain futures, dealing with others who seem to work outside of the current reality, or having to overuse their type by being expected to constantly act as 'the responsible one', ISFJs may find themselves 'in the grip' of their inferior function, Extraverted Intuition. During this experience, the individual is likely to do things that are typically completely out of character. This may include being at odds with normally relied on facts and details, to the point where these details may feel like they lead to the end of the world. Most things in the world are seen as awful, in this state, and the ISFJ may do things he or she would normally deem reckless and foolish.
ISTJ
ISTJ You are: Dependable - Practical - Logical - Thorough
ISTJs are known for appearing calm and being rather reserved and serious, with a great ability to focus on the task at hand. They prize logic and practicality and couple these with their gift for thoroughness to steadily work towards a solid end product. ISTJs have a great appreciation for responsibility and hard work and will go to great lengths to make sure work is done carefully and correctly. This is most easily accomplished in areas where expectations are clearly drawn out and performed using set, tried and true procedures.
Often, hidden under the ISTJs exterior is a wonderful and unexpected sense of humor. As family members and friends, ISTJs are typically extremely devoted, and they may show affection by performing practical, helpful acts for those that they care about (ex. taking out the trash and making sure cars are in safe working order).

They may often find it difficult to be in situations of change, especially when they do not see the practicality of the change, or they lack the past experience with the new way of doing things to trust it.
